Court Rolls and Lordship

The attached paper was prepared and published by a Mr Leonard Cohen who bought the Lord of the Manor title to West Challow, possibly in the 1990’s.

It’s prefaced with the following:

It is with pleasure I enclose a copy of my booklet which explains to the reader, what a Lordship of the Manor is. Further, my publishing the only known copy of the manorial COURT ROLLS of West Challow directly from the original Latin, provides an interesting account of life in the village circa 16th century. My contribution is intended to complement the activities of the village in celebration of the forthcoming millenium and show what local history research can find out.
